Description |
“Children of substance using parents: Pathways to risk and resilience” Rina Eiden, Ph.D, Candidate for the Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse in HDFS and PSYCH Abstract: Maternal cocaine use during pregnancy occurs in the context of polysubstance abuse and is a marker of risk for maternal and child health. Using data from an ongoing longitudinal study from birth to adolescence, Dr. Eiden will discuss developmental pathways to risk and resilience among children of polysubstance cocaine using mothers. These include child pathways of reactivity and regulation, developmental cascades from parenting to child risk, and the complexities of environmental risk factors associated with maternal cocaine use. Implications for interventions and future research directions in a larger program of research on parental substance use will be discussed. |
