Aleksandra Zgierska, MD, PhD, DFASAM, Jeanne L. and Thomas L. Leaman, MD, Endowed Professor and Vice Chair for Research at the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Penn State Hershey and Consortium on Substance Use and Addiction advisory board member, was recently elected as Vice President of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
The role provides an opportunity to contribute toward shaping the national and state level policies and guidelines pertaining to addiction, substance use and pain care, and public health in general.
Zgierska is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and has been involved in ASAM since 2006. She served on the Wisconsin Society of Addiction Medicine (WISAM) Board of Directors for 8 years, including 2 years as President. She also served as Vice-Chair for the ASAM’s Chapters’ Council for over 4 years and is an active member of the ASAM Public Policy Committee and the ASAM Board of Directors, including serving as Secretary since 2021. Zgierska is also a professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and Public Health Sciences.
